The tweet quickly caught the attention of UAB, which later that day tweeted the following statement attributed to President Ray Watts: Only a desire that they suffered until their last breath.” On the day Limbaugh died, Parcak said in a now-deleted tweet sent from her personal Twitter account, “When a terrible piece of scum who caused immeasurable harm to millions dies, there is no sympathy. On Friday, FIRE wrote to UAB seeking the university’s assurance that it will not investigate or punish Parcak for her protected off-campus expression, explaining there is no exception to the First Amendment for speech some deem offensive. Sarah Parcak, a professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, was among those on social media who reacted to Limbaugh’s passing with contempt. The death last Wednesday of Rush Limbaugh, the hugely influential and provocative talk radio host, predictably elicited a variety of public reactions, from mournful tributes to blunt ridicule.

Shortly after the announcement, she explained her reasoning for surprising fans with another album:Įver since I was 13, I’ve been excited about turning 31 because it’s my lucky number backwards, which is why I wanted to surprise you with this now. In contrast to Swift’s usual structured and extensive album rollouts, evermore–much like folklore–was announced via social media sixteen hours prior to release. Swift has described the two albums as ‘sister records,’ with evermore serving as a continuation and further artistic venture into ‘the forest of this music’. Taylor Swift’s ninth studio album, evermore, was her second major release in 2020, arriving only five months after folklore. 5/24/2023 0 Comments The Flash by Geoff JohnsIf this is the case with your item, please contact Popcultcha immediately via email to or via telephone on 1300 586 291 (Aussie Hotline) or +61 3 5240 7979 (International Customers). They are all versions of a bigger question: How do you live? This question obsessed Renaissance writers, none more than Michel Eyquem de Montaigne, considered by many to be the first truly modern individual. Contents Īccording to the book's webpage posted by Other Press, How to Live concerns the following: "How to get along with people, how to deal with violence, how to adjust to losing someone you love-such questions arise in most people’s lives. In it, Bakewell "roughly maps out Montaigne's life against the questions he raises along the way," drawing the answers to these questions from his Essays. It is about the life of the 16th-century French nobleman, wine grower, philosopher, and essayist Michel Eyquem de Montaigne. How to Live, or a life of Montaigne in one question and twenty attempts at an answer is a book by Sarah Bakewell, first published by Chatto & Windus in 2010, and by Other Press on September 20, 2011. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Hide and Seek by Jack KetchumThe game soon turns frightening, then deadly, as the four encounter the house's horrid inhabitants, not all humanAa challenge that prompts Dan and others to grow up quickly. In it, the quartet agrees to play hide-and-seek in a local haunted house. The book's second part provides the payoff to that meandering but tantalizing setup. In the first, the narrator, local young man Dan, meets visiting college kids Casey, Kim and Steven engages in some drinking and daring with them falls for beautiful, wild Casey (they have sex in a graveyard) and learns what impels her to take risks: years ago, she was sexually abused by her fatherAabuse that led to the death of her younger brother. Set during summer in the Maine coastal town of Dead River, the book divides into two parts. That's a shame, not only because Mayr's career nose-dived commercially after that (though he's still writing and publishing), but because Hide and Seek is a good novel, strong and true, scary yet uplifting in the classic horror manner. Perhaps because of the outrage the book engendered, Ketchum's second novel, Hide and Seek, received little support from its publisher when it appeared in mass market in 1984. In the early 1980s, Ketchum (the pseudonym of Dallas Mayr) published in paperback as gruesome and taut a horror novel as anyone had seen: Off Season. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Stephen king cujo dogBut I was severely shocked multiple times throughout the novel, which I'm unsure of the attribution - did I forget these integral pieces of the story or was it actually different? I'll definitely have to rewatch to find out. I've seen the movie version, years back, and for the most part, remembered the plot. There's just a touch of supernatural within the pages, and it could be argued there's none at all. This book was likely the least supernatural King book I read. When Very Good Boy Cujo chases a rabbit down a hole, his life changes for the worst, and the town along with it. Now there's a different monster in town, one that used to be so innocent. Not to mention it wasn't very long ago a police officer was found guilty of the brutal murder of multiple women and girls in the town. There's infidelity, a downturn in business, toxic masculinity, emotional abuse, a monster in the closet. There's a lot of bad luck going 'round the small town of Castle Rock. There's a reason this book is a classic - it's haunting, terrifying, and outright sickening. Even not having read the book or seen the film, most people would likely associate the name Cujo with a horrible monster of a dog. Stephen King's Cujo is a classic in terms of horror. (He also envisioned what a mass-media-fueled totalitarian victory might look like - a critical aspect of the book’s plot that many people who haven’t read 1984 since high school have probably forgotten. Orwell, the pen name of the Indian-born Eric Arthur Blair, speaks to us in this moment not only because he understood that words have the power both to shackle and to liberate, but also because 1984 inscribed on the literary imagination a vision of what a mass-media-fueled totalitarianism might look like. That both novels are suddenly on the radar of people who probably haven’t given Orwell a second thought in years is hardly surprising at a time when war refugees are painted as national security threats, white nationalists hold positions of power in the White House and an American president is openly involved in an abusive relationship with the English language. Orwell’s earlier (and arguably greater) allegory, Animal Farm, is also getting its due. His seven-decade-old dystopian classic, 1984, recently made waves by topping a bunch of bestseller lists. To the surprise of absolutely no one, George Orwell is everywhere these days.
